*Pops head in and blows off the cobwebs*
Well umm… Hello there it has been a while. Mainly because I kinda stopped pc gaming there for a long while and the future still looks thin for that stuff. Not that I don’t still like games but I’ve kinda been busy with other projects and there really hasn’t been much that really grabbed me. There have been a few games though and I’ll have a quick recap of games I’ve played coming up in the next couple days.
Mostly I’ve been completely subsumed in the whole hobbt of Dungeons and Dragons and this post has some funny timing as it’s kind of a year since I started playing.. Nearly exactly.
It all started rather poorly with a bad pathfinder group, a rather lacklustre dm in a house that smelled of cat piss and a guy that creeper me the fuck out. But it was enough to fuel that interest and well, here I am now fully into the hobby with 1 game if been running out of my house for I think 8 months, another game that just finished online after 6 and still having a lot of fun.
And this is probably the reason I stopped blogging. I had the time but that creative writing itch was being fulfilled elsewhere as I created a large homebrew world and crafted various stories. I’d be lying if I said it started well as I think falling into that role it can be rather hard to craft meaningful, interesting and fun stories. To engage players enough is a hard job to do and something you learn over time rather than just having an innate ability.
But I’m getting better, enjoying it a lot more and really getting the hang of crafting enough while also leaving plenty of room for improvisation. I’m thinking there are a few things I’d like to talk about with being a new dm, getting and keeping a group and of course running games that I’ll have to write down in the future. A few ideas for those wanting to try and maybe even for others that may fund a few tips and such.
Other than that I was even thinking about writing about my games. About the progress of my games but more with a critical and reflective eye. To talk about what worked, what didn’t and how to maybe make better encounters and content. This of course is not just for those reading but hopefully for me as well as thinking it through will help but am also looking for advice and critiques.
And of course the next thing to talk about is my new map making mission over at patreon where I’ve started really getting into art again. I’ve always doodkes, and enjoyed doing so but it was never really my passion. But yeh, creating landscapes and maps actually rather appeals to me. It’s relaxing to sit back while watching a show and doodling away and it seems I’m getting a few commissions now and them of people interested in my stuff… Which is still weird because I see so many more out there that are far more awesome but hey a little extra cash is nice and supporting my hobby too. It paid for a drawing tablet which should get here shortly which is sweeeeet.
Anyway, thanks for popping by and stay tuned in the future for more bloggy banter. Mostly about Dnd now but also games, and probably even a sprinkling of the personal as well.
